A six-month-old foreign baby boy was found unconscious by his parents at an Air Itam flat and later pronounced dead, with no criminal elements suspected.

GEORGE TOWN: A six-month-old foreign baby boy was found unconscious at a flat in Air Itam here today by his parents before he was pronounced dead.

Timur Laut district police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake said police received a public tip-off about the incident at 8.55 am.

Preliminary investigations revealed the baby was found unconscious on a bed by his parents around 7 am.

“There were no criminal elements and the baby had a history of medical issue with his lungs,” Lee said in a statement.

He added that the results of an autopsy by the Penang Hospital forensics department did not detect any criminal elements.

The case has been classified as a sudden death and a report has been opened to conduct further investigations.
