The raids involved three cases at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), one in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, one in Kajang and two in Sepang.
SHAH ALAM: Selangor police seized drugs worth RM31.53 million and crippled six trafficking syndicates in seven raids conducted between Aug 19 and 26, resulting in the arrest of 14 people.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the raids involved three cases at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), one in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, one in Kajang and two in Sepang.
Those arrested comprised three Malaysian men, two Malaysian women, seven foreign men and two foreign women, aged between 20 and 39.
He said the six syndicates had been active for about six months.
“Three cases involved foreign drug couriers, while another three involved drug storage and distribution,” he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters here today.
Shazeli said the couriers comprised two Europeans and one person from Southeast Asia, who were paid between RM2,000 and RM3,000.
“The payments varied. Some were paid in ringgit and others in their own countries’ currencies,” he said.
He said the couriers were arrested while carrying out their first assignments and were linked to different syndicates.
The operations were conducted by the Selangor police contingent’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, its counterparts in Kajang and Sepang, as well as auxiliary police from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) at KLIA.
Police seized 214 plastic packages containing compressed material suspected to be cannabis flower, weighing 135.4kg, and 2,325 packets of suspected MDMA powder weighing 117.54kg.
They also seized 14 packets of ecstasy pills weighing 4.94kg, 320 aluminium foil packages containing Erimin 5 pills weighing 1.019kg and a packet of ketamine powder weighing 444g.
The haul also included 22 bottles and 118 boxes of cartridges containing liquid MDMA, with a combined estimated weight of 17.6g.
Five machines believed to have been used to package the drugs were also confiscated.
Separately, police seized assets worth RM172,069, comprising five vehicles, RM3,879 in cash, four gold-coloured necklaces and a Hermès handbag.
The vehicles were a Honda CR-V, Nissan Teana, Mazda6, Honda City and Proton Saga.
Shazeli said 11 suspects were charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at the end of August.
One suspect was being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985, while two others were released.
Checks found that one Malaysian male suspect had two previous criminal records, while five foreign suspects had overstayed their social visit passes.
Police estimated that the seized drugs could supply 912,876 users at any one time, based on consumption of 0.3g per person.
Shazeli said the seizures demonstrated the presence of large, active and organised drug trafficking syndicates that posed a serious threat to the community.
He said Selangor police would continue intensifying enforcement efforts without compromise.
“Members of the public are reminded not to become drug couriers by accepting offers to carry luggage or belongings for others without knowing their contents.
“Do not be easily enticed by promises of lucrative payments, as such actions can have very serious legal consequences,” he said.
