A SIX-YEAR-OLD child was killed in a fire that engulfed two houses in Kampung Patau, Tambunan, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred at about 4am, when the girl was found dead inside a bedroom after the blaze broke out. Another victim sustained injuries while trying to flee the burning premises.
Tambunan Fire and Rescue Station chief Mitchell Francis George said his department received an emergency call at 4.08am and immediately dispatched a team to the scene, located about 16 kilometres from the station.
A total of eight firefighters were involved in the operation, which was brought under control and concluded at about 7am after crews confirmed that the area was safe.
“In the incident, the fire involved two houses and three vehicles. There were two victims, namely a young girl who was found burnt to death inside a room and was later handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police for further action,” he said in a statement.
“A second victim sustained injuries while attempting to escape from the fire and was taken to hospital by ambulance,” he added.
Mitchell said firefighting operations were carried out using water supplied from fire engines and nearby fire hydrants, and no further hazards were detected after the blaze was fully extinguished. - February 10, 2026
