Skeletal remains were found at the ancestral home of former Pasir Bedamar assemblyman Wah Keng Jooi on Jalan Sungai Nibong, Teluk Intan in Perak on Saturday (July 19).
The skeletal remains, consisting of two bones and a skull, is suspected to be the 77-year-old son of Wah Keng Jooi, an MCA representative who served from 1959 to 1964.
Hilir Perak Police Chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said the initial report was received at around 2.24 PM last Saturday from a 78-year-old man who wanted to visit his 77-year-old younger brother, who lived alone in an old two-storey wooden house.
“Upon arriving at the house, he detected a foul smell. Efforts to find the victim failed as the wooden stairs leading to the upper floor of the house were rotten. He then filed a police report.”
Initial investigations by the police and fire department led to the discovery of the skeletal remains, with the body no longer there. A pet dog was found alive alongside the victim’s personal belongings.
At the time of writing (July 24), the police found no elements of foul play, and the matter has been classified as sudden death (SDR). The skeleton was taken to the Teluk Intan Hospital for autopsy, as reported by Malaysia Gazette and Sinar Harian.
In another report by Kwong Wah Yit Poh, the deceased was revealed to be unmarried, and he used to run a computer store in KL before he returned to Taiping more than 10 years ago. The deceased’s brother, who is 85 this year, said that he believed the skeleton belonged to his younger brother, who had not gone to his sister’s house for dinner for many days. The deceased’s car was still parked outside the house.
