KUALA LUMPUR — Skudai assemblyman Marina Ibrahim today said she would not contest in the next election and will resign from politics.
The one-term legislator from DAP, who one the Skudai seat in the Johor state election in March 2022, said she came to this decision after discussions with those closest to her throughout her political journey.
“I have chosen to go back to something very close to my heart, which is to be on the ground serving the community and doing social work.
“It has been a part of my life even before joining politics,” she said on Facebook.
Marina was 34 when she won the Skudai seat, securing a majority of over 13,000 votes against her closest rival from MCA-Barisan Nasional in a three-cornered fight.
Marina thanked her team and the people of Skudai who have supported her work as assemblyman, asking for forgiveness for any shortcomings.
Johor state elections are speculated to be held this year, even though the Johor state assembly only expires in the first quarter of next year.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, from Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN), has said BN will contest all 56 state seats in the state election, without collaboration with its federal ally Pakatan Harapan. - May 31, 2026
