There are few better ways to start a Friday than on the 28th floor of a Mont Kiara condominium, where sweeping views and good company set the tone for an unforgettable breakfast. My wife, our tennis partner, and I were invited by our fourth player, a warm host with a passion for food, to her beautifully furnished apartment.

As we sat, the morning clouds rolled over the distant peaks of the Genting Highlands. Our host mentioned, with casual pride, that on a clear day, the main casino is visible—no binoculars necessary.

While we admired the breathtaking view, our hostess cheerfully declared, "I've made something simple for breakfast!" But as soon as the dish arrived, we knew her modest words were masking something extraordinary.

Served in a cast iron pan that looked as seasoned as her culinary skills, her take on an Italian omelette (frittata) was far from basic. It was an exquisite balance of flavours and textures: eggs, cheese, spinach, and shiitake mushrooms, with just the right amount of halal beef bacon to lend depth.

She mentioned how she lightened the traditional recipe by omitting the usual potatoes, making it both carb-free and satisfying. But there was no shortage of indulgence, as she accompanied the frittata with a basket of freshly sliced sun-dried loaf bread from one of KL’s finest bakeries, served with rich, salted French butter—a thoughtful touch for those wanting something to mop up the last bites.

And just when we thought the meal couldn't get any better, dessert arrived. A chia-seed-Greek-yoghur creation, beautifully paired with fresh blueberries and pumpkin seeds, offered a light yet indulgent finish. Each spoonful was a refreshing contrast to the savoury frittata, making it the perfect conclusion to a well-balanced healthy meal.

Of course, no breakfast is complete without coffee. Our host served a home-brewed blend that was wonderfully smooth, paired with fresh milk from Farm Fresh, which added a touch of creaminess without overpowering the brew.

After tennis or a casual weekend morning, this was the kind of breakfast that elevates both the mood and the senses. The food was simple yet sophisticated, thoughtfully prepared, and enjoyed with a view that made the entire experience feel like a special occasion. I couldn’t help but feel grateful for both the food and the hospitality—truly a sky-high delight at Mont Kiara.
