Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan Youth (Wira Warisan) suggested that the government slash the road tax price in Sabah by half compared to the Peninsula which is 20 to 30 per cent cheaper.

Wira Warisan Information Chief Khairuddin Daud said the suggestion is appropriate given the terrible road conditions in Sabah.

“The roads here are worse than in Peninsula. We often read reports of road accidents in Sabah caused by the condition of damaged and narrow roads.

“Additionally, the rate of four-wheel drive use in Sabah is also higher than in the Peninsula.

“Four-wheel drive is not an option for the people of Sabah, but a necessity, especially in the interior areas due to the condition of the roads which are not passable by normal vehicles.

“Therefore, it is relevant to reduce the price of the road tax to 50 per cent to ease the burden of vehicle users, especially four-wheel drive vehicles.

“This will help Sabah road users repair vehicles damage due to the road conditions. It is hoped that the Ministry of Transport can give due attention and care to road users in Sabah,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, he welcomed the announcement by Transport Minister, Anthony Loke Siew Fook to abolish the Motor Vehicle License sticker or road tax on private vehicles and motorcycles with immediate effect.

“This is a progressive step and should be commended for making it easier for road users throughout Malaysia,” said the Kudat Wira Warisan Chief.
