KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Law Society (SLS) has reminded Putrajaya that Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement is a constitutional right that cannot be treated as a policy concession, citing a statement by its president Datuk Mohamed Nazim Maduarin (pic) on Sunday.
Nazim said clarity on methodology, quantum and payment structure is necessary, but stressed these parameters only facilitate implementation and must not dilute or redefine the State’s legal entitlement.
He said the 40 per cent share stems from explicit provisions agreed upon during the formation of Malaysia, reflecting Sabah’s unique fiscal position within the Federation.
Nazim added that while administrative discussions between governments may occur, they do not alter the legal nature of the entitlement nor affect the ongoing appeal proceedings, which remain separate from executive negotiations.
He said the Society will continue monitoring developments and remains committed to safeguarding constitutional fidelity, legal certainty and Sabah’s rights within the Federation.
