SM Prime Holdings Inc. on Tuesday said that it was set to open SM Seaside Cebu Arena, the largest multipurpose indoor arena in the province, this June.
The arena, located within SM Prime’s integrated South Coast City estate, covers a building footprint of about 1.6 hectares and a total gross floor area of roughly 7.4 hectares.SM Seaside Cebu Arena officials were said to be already in talks with concert promoters, sports federations, family entertainment producers and corporate event organizers.“By building a venue of this scale in Cebu, we are strengthening the Visayas as a destination for international events, domestic tourism and long-term investment,” SM Prime President Jeffrey Lim said.The arena can accommodate over 25,000 guests and features multilevel spectator areas, professional-grade sports and entertainment systems, corporate suites, VIP lounges, a variety of food and beverage concepts, and other lifestyle amenities.A SkyBridge will link the arena to the SMX Convention Center Cebu and SM Seaside City Cebu.“There is a lot of excitement and anticipation for this project because Cebuanos have long supported live concerts, and having a large-capacity venue in Cebu makes these events more accessible without the added cost of traveling to Manila,” Lim claimed.The Seaside Cebu Arena builds on SM Prime’s experience with the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Metro Manila, which opened in 2012 with Lady Gaga’s two-night “Born This Way Ball” concert.SM Prime Holdings shares rose P0.45, or 2.10 percent, to close at P21.85 each on Tuesday.
