SM Prime Holdings Inc. is collaborating with government agencies to develop transport-linked infrastructure aimed at easing daily commutes across Metro Manila and nearby areas.
In a statement on Wednesday, SM Prime President Jeffrey Lim said urban mobility remained a key component of national development and that the company’s partnership with the government had enabled improvements in access points used by commuters every day.
"By working with the government, we are able to improve access points that affect commuters every day,” Lim said, adding that the initiative began during the pandemic when improving public transport access became a priority.
SM Prime is investing more than P300 million to build a direct pedestrian link between the LRT-2 Antipolo Station and SM City Masinag.
The covered walkway is designed to provide seamless and weather-protected access, reducing transfer times and eliminating the need for commuters to cross busy roads.
The project will feature ramps, elevators, lighting and closed-circuit television systems to enhance accessibility and safety.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with completion targeted within six months under a public-private partnership with the Light Rail Transit Authority.
The company, meanwhile, opened the SM North EDSA Busway Concourse in March 2025 with covered walkways, escalators and elevators, as well as direct access to the EDSA busway station.
SM Prime said it was replicating the concourse model at SM Megamall, where construction is ongoing. The northbound section is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.
In addition to physical infrastructure, the company has partnered with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to provide commuters with real-time traffic updates.
SM Prime shares rose 58 centavos, or 3.02 percent, to close at P19.78 each on Wednesday.
