smart Malaysia last week introduced its largest and most capable electric vehicle (EV) yet: the smart #5, which was previewed in August of this year. The mid-size electric SUV is designed for “urban explorers who demand more: more space, more range, and more presence”. The smart #5 combines a rugged exterior with refined design and joins the #1 and #3 to deliver a bold, premium driving experience in the D-segment SUV format. Unlike the previous smart models, the #5 is based on the Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture instead of the Sustainable Experience Architecture.
Pricing and Availability
The smart #5 is launched in two variants, both with their On-The-Road Price (without insurance) including Sales and Service Tax:

The #5 is built on a state-of-the-art EV architecture and features nine drive modes, including five off-road modes, and an advanced suspension system to adapt to any terrain.

The smart #5 is firmly within the D-segment (mid-size) SUV category with a generous 2,900mm wheelbase.
- Exterior: Boasts a boxy, confident exterior with design cues from Mercedes-Benz.
- Safety & Structure: Achieved a 5-Star Euro NCAP rating. It is built with an 82% high-strength steel construction and offers 42,000Nm torsional rigidity. Safety is comprehensive with seven airbags, smart Pilot Assist, and Highway Pilot Assist (HWA) with Stop & Go.
- Interior: Features a lounge-inspired cabin wrapped in soft-touch Nappa leather, oak wood trims, and a tie-clip inspired dashboard.
- Technology: A highly intuitive experience is delivered through dual 13” OLED screens, a 25.6” AR head-up display, an AMD V2000 chipset, and LEO, a ChatGPT-powered smart avatar.
