Fellow Malaysians, you’re probably a lover (or a hater) of stinky tofu. To those who are not aware, stinky tofu is soaked in fermented milk, meat, or vegetables, and it produces a strong odor, which can be unpleasant to some. According to BBC, stinky tofu is an obsession in Taiwan.

Scottish flood vlogger, Dale Philip recently had the opportunity to try stinky tofu at Connaught Night Market in Cheras, KL. It wasn’t a plan but he was attracted by the long queue at a stall that sold stinky tofu.

Before he bought the food, a couple of customers had to tell him about the strong odor. After buying himself some stinky tofu, he sat near a drain, and he had a lot to describe even before he tasted the food.
First and foremost, Dale said he thought the tofu was going to be soft, and not hard and crispy “like cookies”.
“A very slight hint of smelly, stale socks”, Dale described.

He then further described the strong odor by saying,
“Like, if you hike up the mountains, you took your socks off and just threw them to the side and forgot to wash them for a couple of days.”
Yep, we got it, Dale. Thanks for the clear description.

So, is Dale a fan of stinky tofu?
Fans of stinky tofu, we’re sorry to tell you that Dale made it clear that he didn’t enjoy his first bite. He couldn’t proceed with the second bite because he decided to throw away the remaining stinky tofu into the bin.
“Why did I think something called stinky tofu would be nice?” Dale questioned himself.
Dale also uttered the words “stinky and disgusting” when he headed to the garbage bin. If you’re a keen follower of Dale Philip’s journey on food vlogging around Asia, you might be aware that Dale rarely dislikes a food to this extent. We guess he’ll remember stinky tofu for the rest of his life.

He then quickly looked for a refreshment drink to wash off the taste in his mouth. It didn’t take him long to find a truck that sold a variety of drinks, and Dale decided to “cool off” with Milo Godzilla, which he enjoyed.
