PAPAR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has chosen Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Benoni as this year’s Madani adopted school, following its implementation at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tikam Batu, Sungai Petani, Kedah last year.
Its Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said with the selection, RM100,000 has been allocated to upgrade the Home Science Workshop and the Clothing Design Workshop because SMK Benoni is the only school offering the Clothing Design subject in Sabah.
“In addition to that allocation, SMK Benoni also received corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions from KPDN agencies and private companies,” he said in a statement, Friday.
Armizan, who is also the Papar Member of Parliament, said the contributions were, among others, for the construction of a multipurpose hall, classroom equipment and teaching aids, support for academic excellence programmes and character development, as well as financial assistance to students from the asnaf, the poor as well as orphans.
He also expressed appreciation to all KPDN agencies, private companies and other parties who contributed, as well as the staff of SMK Benoni, who together made the programme a success, which is very meaningful in ensuring its benefits can be felt by the students and the entire school community.
The Madani Adopted School is an initiative introduced last year, among other things, aimed at strengthening education comprehensively through collaboration between ministries and government agencies, and involving the private sector and the community.
It focuses on social development, school community empowerment, character development and student skills, and the Federal Government has allocated RM50 million for the implementation of this programme, with RM100,000 allocated to each ministry to carry out programmes and projects in selected schools.
