SEMPORNA: The Marine Police here foiled two smuggling attempts involving cosmetics and cigarettes in separate operations off Simunul and Tanjung Manimpa waters on Tuesday.
Sabah Region Four Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said officers intercepted a suspicious boat off Simunul waters around 12.45pm, which was found to be carrying various brands of cosmetics believed to have been smuggled from a neighbouring country.
Later the same day, at about 7pm, another operation off Tanjung Manimpa led to the seizure of several boxes containing different brands of cigarettes intended for the local market.
In total, 15 boxes with about 7,000 units of cosmetics and 400 cartons of cigarettes worth an estimated RM262,830 were confiscated under the Customs Act 1967 and the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.
Mohd Nazri urged the public to share information on smuggling and other illegal activities, adding that the Marine Police remain committed to protecting Sabah’s waters and upholding national security.
