The unfolding Snuppee Mall fraud case has prompted a vigorous response from the Royal Malaysia Police, with a total of 54 investigation papers opened to delve into a scheme that has caused losses exceeding RM1 million. Deputy Director (Investigation) of the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa, shed light on the deceptive practices employed by Snuppee Mall. The company marketed itself as an online platform offering an avenue for individuals to generate additional income.
According to Rohaimi, the modus operandi involved enticing individuals to register and purchase packages ranging from as low as RM50 to a substantial RM13,700. Participants were then required to complete assigned tasks, with commission rates varying based on the selected packages. Adding to the allure, Snuppee Mall, as of January 2024, offered an 80% cashback incentive for each additional sum deposited into the Snuppee accounts.
However, the situation took a drastic turn on January 29, 2024, when Snuppee Mall abruptly declared bankruptcy, shutting down all its operations. This unexpected announcement left numerous users who had made money transfers to the company in a precarious situation.
In response to these fraudulent activities, investigations are being conducted under Section 420 of the Penal Code. Rohaimi urged victims of the scheme to come forward and report their cases at the nearest police station. The police emphasize their unwavering commitment to ensuring a comprehensive and lawful investigation, with the ultimate goal of promptly apprehending and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The Snuppee Mall case serves as a stark reminder of the necessity for vigilance in the digital age. It underscores the importance of exercising caution when engaging in online financial transactions and highlights the potential risks associated with seemingly lucrative schemes. As authorities actively pursue those responsible, this incident reinforces the collective responsibility to safeguard against deceptive practices, uphold the integrity of online platforms, and protect the interests of unsuspecting victims. The police's dedicated efforts underscore the gravity with which fraudulent activities are addressed to maintain public trust in the digital realm.
