Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed last week, forcing immediate changes behind the scenes.

Manager Scott Parker was dismissed with immediate effect this Thursday as part of that reset. Burnley then turned to a familiar figure to stabilise the team in the closing weeks.

Michael Jackson was appointed as interim boss for the remainder of the season, and the announcement quickly caught attention from supporters online.

Supporters were quick to respond after news broke that Jackson would take charge for a second spell as Burnley caretaker manager.

The reaction was driven by the shared name with the global music icon branded as ‘The King of Pop’, whose recent biopic has generated renewed attention after surpassing $200 million in its first week.

Fans flooded X with playful references to the singer’s catalogue. One post read: “Burnley, are you okay? Burnley, are you okay? Are you okay, Burnley. You’ve been hit by, you’ve been struck by a smooth relegation.”

Others added: “Thriller season for Burnley” and “Wait, which Michael Jackson? Because if he starts moonwalking after wins, I’m definitely watching every Burnley match.”
