THE Social Welfare Department has denied the existence of an “Official Malaysia Senior Citizen Card” that has been circulating on social media and messaging applications, describing the claim as false.
In a statement, the department said it had taken note of the spread of information online and via WhatsApp regarding the alleged issuance of the card.
“The Social Welfare Department has become aware of information circulating on social media and WhatsApp applications regarding the issuance of an ‘Official Malaysia Senior Citizen Card’,” the statement said.
“In this regard, the department wishes to deny the authenticity of the information. For the public’s information, there has been no issuance of an ‘Official Malaysia Senior Citizen Card’ by the Social Welfare Department,” it added.
The department warned that the dissemination of such false information could confuse members of the public, particularly senior citizens and their families.
It advised the public to remain vigilant and to obtain accurate, verified and up-to-date information only through official Social Welfare Department channels.
The department said it welcomed enquiries and requests for clarification regarding its services and assistance programmes through the Talian Kasih hotline at 15999, its WhatsApp line at 019-261 5999, which operates 24 hours a day, or by contacting the nearest District Social Welfare Office.
