SANDAKAN: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) Sandakan branch has paid out funeral expenses benefits to the next-of-kin of a woman who was killed by a crocodile at Kampung Tanjung Bulat, Kinabatangan, recently.
The presentation done at the Socso office here was received by the husband of the deceased, Norsihela Sayong.
Her remains were found a day after she was reported missing, believed dragged by the crocodile, about 800 meters from where she was attacked.
Earlier, she and her family had gone for fishing at the riverbank.
However, before she went missing, she managed to save her mother from being dragged away by the crocodile.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Bung Moktar who is also Kinabagtangan MP hoped the authorities would capture crocodiles along the Kinabatangan River. “The Sabah government should follow the footsteps of Sarawak which allow crocodiles to be captured and killed in a systematic way to control their numbers,” he said.
