SIPITANG: The state government's commitment to prioritising local hires at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) is being fulfilled, with many Sipitang residents now employed at Petronas’ SAMUR plant.

Sipitang assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said more jobs are coming, urging youths to seize opportunities as new companies begin operations. A recent SOGIP Open Day, held in collaboration with Petronas, saw 450 youths interviewed for roles.

With RM72 billion in investments and six major firms set to operate, up to 3,500 jobs will be created during construction and tens of thousands when fully operational.

He encouraged residents to equip themselves with relevant skills and tap into support sectors like food, logistics, and maintenance.

He said the project aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya plan and is expected to boost the local economy for years to come.
