
- Ian Huntley, the convicted killer of schoolgirls Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells, has died in hospital.
- His death followed a severe brain trauma sustained during an attack by a fellow inmate at HMP Frankland, Durham, on 26 February.
- Huntley was reportedly beaten with a makeshift weapon, leaving him blinded and in a vegetative state, with his life support machine subsequently turned off.
- Murderer and rapist Anthony Russell, 43, is reported to have attacked Huntley in the prison's recycling area.
- This was not the first attack on Huntley, who had previously been targeted by inmates in other prisons, and his daughter expressed relief at his death.
