RANAU: Residents of Kg Lembah Permai Kundasang are advised to be cautious following a soil deposit occurrence there.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said it involved a huge section of a hillside in the village.

He said based on a dialogue with the residents there, the area measures about 150X700 meters and involves houses, vegetable gardens as well as lodging and homestay.

“The station received a notification about the occurrence at 11.35am and a three-member unit led by myself went to the location some 17km from the station to investigate.

“At the site, we found soil deposits in the area of the caller's house and advised the residents to move if the situation worsens,” he said, adding the case is handed over to Public Works Department for follow-up action.

According to Ridwan, the Department of Minerals and Geosciences will inspect the location and the Ranau Fire Department was ready for any eventuality.

Meanwhile, Department of Minerals and Geosciences (JMG) Sabah Director Dr Frederick Francis Tating, when contacted, said officers from JMG were in the affected area to carry out inspections.

“My officers are still in the field and I'm waiting for the report,” he said.
