
I am thankful to Johnny Ng, President Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) for presenting me with a pictorial album of Sejahtera Leadership Initiative (SLI) team recent visit to SISM in Bandar Sri Sendayan, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. According to CEO Michael Kok, SISM offers comprehensive education from lower to upper secondary & pre-university levels.
Michael said, “As the world's first international school embodying Soka's Humanistic values, SISM is pioneering a new standard in international education. The teachers nurturing an environment that promotes academic, intellectual & personal growth. Michael emphasised “SISM is a student-centred educational approach, which includes interdisciplinary learning and purposed-based learning. It aims to stimulate and encourage the flowering of each student's unique creative potential to bloom to its fullest, empowering them to be genuine learners and future-ready Malaysia Madani and global citizens.”
Madani is an acronym for a policy that embraces six core values - KeMampanan (Sustainabity), Kesejahteraan (Prosperity), Daya Cipta (Innovation), horMat (Respect), KeyakiNan (Confident) & Ihsan (Compassion). An inclusive educational environment is necessary to fully make Malaysia Madani a success. The importance of nurturing character and values.
I asked President Johnny Ng, why is SGM put strong emphasis on culture and education? He said, “Culture in a sense, is the vibrant expression of human life itself. For this reason, although marked by ethnic, linguistic, religious and traditional characteristics; culture has the real power to transcend all such differences to strike a common chord in the hearts of people of diverse background. Evidently, at the heart of the SGM programs & activities for peace and harmonious coexistence is Madani values of education for global citizenship.”
SLI concurred with SGM that as the pace of change accelerates, learning and development (L&D) functions must undergo changes to stay ahead of change. L&D must move away from ad-hoc skills management to a transformative learning ecosystem that align with the evolving business strategy to meet the needs of future economy, workforce & society.
