Kota Kinabalu: The Rural Development Ministry does not disregard the possibility of using solar-powered street lights to illuminate village roads in the State.

In response to a supplementary question by Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, Assistant Rural Development Minister Samad Jambri is using various approaches to implement the village street lights (LJK) programme.

“For areas that are accessible by power supply, we will use electricity-powered lights, while for those without power supply, perhaps solar-powered lights are a good solution,” he said.

Earlier, to an original question by Liawan assemblyman Datuk Annuar Ayub, Samad said based on information from the Federal Rural Development Ministry, an allocation of RM50 million for the installation of village street lights has been approved for the State Rural Development Ministry this year.

“The Ministry is in the process of finalising the appointment of a contractor and the project is expected to be implemented in early 2023,” he said.
