Soldier charged with raping 18-year-old girl

Kota Kinabalu: A 23-year-old soldier from Kedah was charged with raping an underaged girl.

Muhammad Irfan Abd Jali pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, to the charge against him on Thursday.

He is accused of raping the 18-year and one-month-old girl between March and April 2023 at a house in Kg Pasir Putih, Putatan.

The offence under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.

Read more The court set May 3 for mention and released Muhammad on bail of RM15,000 with RM5,000 deposited in two local sureties and one of them should be an officer of the Lokawi Camp.

He was also ordered to report to police station here twice a month as well as his passport, if any, to be kept by the court until the disposal of his case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Tham Pou Jin appeared for the prosecution while Muhammad was not represented.
