A soldier pleads not guilty to abusing his 10-year-old son in Kota Bharu, with bail set at RM10,000

KOTA BHARU: A soldier pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of abusing his son two years ago.

Zainudin Zainal Abidin, 42, made the plea after the charge was read out before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.

He is charged with abusing his 10-year-old son by kicking the boy on the abdomen and slapping him in the face at a house in Kampung Kijang here at about 7.30 pm on May 11, 2024.

The charge, framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611), provides a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to 20 years or both, if convicted.

The court allowed Zainudin bail of RM10,000 with one surety and set June 24 for mention for the submission of documents.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim, while Zainudin was represented by lawyer Samsul Bahrin.
