PAS has vehemently denied reports suggesting that the party has distanced itself from Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in light of his recent sedition charge. The controversy erupted following claims that PAS leaders were absent from Muhyiddin’s court appearance at the Gua Musang Sessions Court, where he faced allegations related to his campaign activities.

Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man addressed the issue head-on, asserting that PAS remains firmly supportive of Muhyiddin. He emphasized that key party figures, including Secretary General Takiyuddin Hassan and various leaders from PAS Perak, were present in court to demonstrate their solidarity.

“We regret the misleading reports suggesting PAS has abandoned Muhyiddin. This is simply not true,” Tuan Ibrahim said in a statement to the media. He described such reports as fabrications aimed at creating discord within Perikatan Nasional. “The claims are baseless and an attempt to undermine our unity.”

The controversy began when a news portal reported that PAS had not shown up in force at Muhyiddin’s court appearance, implying a potential rift or lack of support. However, Tuan Ibrahim clarified that the party's presence was duly represented by Takiyuddin Hassan, local PAS leaders, and other party members, despite the absence of some high-profile figures.

Muhyiddin’s sedition charge stems from a speech he made during the Nenggiri by-election campaign in Felda Perasu on August 14, 2024. The charge, under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, carries a penalty of up to RM5,000 in fines, a prison sentence of up to three years, or both, upon conviction. The allegations relate to comments made during his campaign, which are claimed to have breached the Sedition Act’s provisions.

Gua Musang PAS Chairman Azman Ahmad confirmed that local party leaders, including Perak PAS Commissioner Razman Zakaria, attended the court proceedings. However, he refrained from commenting on the absence of more senior PAS officials, sparking further speculation.

Tuan Ibrahim also criticized Pakatan Harapan’s stance on the Sedition Act, highlighting what he perceives as hypocrisy. “Pakatan Harapan has protested against the Sedition Act in the past, yet now they are applying it when they are in power,” he remarked. This critique underscores ongoing political tensions and conflicting views on legal and political practices among Malaysia’s major parties.

As the political climate remains charged, PAS’s denial of any withdrawal of support for Muhyiddin serves to reinforce its commitment to Perikatan Nasional and its leaders. The party’s clarification aims to dispel any notions of division or disloyalty amidst Muhyiddin’s legal challenges and the broader political landscape.
