Kota Kinabalu: A man sustained serious injuries, while his 61-year-old mother was slightly injured in an accident near the Open University in Lintas-Kapayan, here, Wednesday.

The accident happened at about 5.30am when their van, travelling from Papar, collided with a 10-ton cement lorry that was making a U-turn near the Open University intersection.

The mother and son were en route to deliver vegetables to wholesale markets in Lido and Inanam when the collision happened.

The woman said her son, 29, was left with a fractured left arm after being trapped in the driver’s seat.

His mother, seated in the front passenger seat, suffered slight injury to her arm.

Fire and rescue team responded quickly to assist the driver and provide immediate medical attention to both victims.

They were subsequently sent to the hospital in an ambulance.

Kota Kinabalu Police Sergeant Laimin was at the scene to investigate.
