In a recent court case, a jobless man named Konsaid Yakob was sentenced to four years of jail and one stroke of the rotan for causing injury to his mother over money.

The incident occurred when Konsaid asked his mother for RM5 to buy syabu, a highly addictive drug. However, his mother could only provide him with RM3, which led to a heated altercation between them. Konsaid, who pleaded guilty before Sessions Court judge Elsie Primus, was charged with causing injury to his 48-year-old mother at their home in Telipok Housing Scheme on May 26th, at 2:50 pm.

This offense falls under Section 324 of the Penal Code read with Section 326A, which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years, a fine, or whipping upon conviction. According to the facts presented during the case, Konsaid was under the influence of drugs when he asked his mother for money.

When she could only provide him with RM3, he became enraged and went on a rampage. In his anger, he grabbed a piece of wood and struck his mother on the head, causing her to bleed. Upon seeing the blood on the floor, Konsaid became scared and fled the scene. However, he was apprehended by concerned villagers who handed him over to the police later that day.

During the court proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Jessica Ombou Kakayun represented the prosecution, while the accused chose to be unrepresented. With overwhelming evidence against him, Konsaid pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. This incident highlights the devastating consequences of drug addiction and the impact it can have on individuals and their families.

Konsaid's desperate need for money to buy syabu led him to commit a violent act against his own mother, causing her harm and distress. The sentencing of Konsaid represents the firm stance of the court in punishing those who commit offenses motivated by drug addiction. By imposing a jail term and a stroke of the rotan, the court aims to deter others from engaging in similar behavior and to send a strong message that such actions will not be tolerated in society.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking help and support for substance abuse issues, rather than resorting to violence or illegal activities. It also highlights the need for society to work together in combating drug addiction and providing rehabilitation opportunities for those who need it.
