Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old eldest son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has formally appealed the court verdict handed down against him last week, his lawyer told Norwegian news agency NTB on Wednesday.
An Oslo court sentenced Høiby to four years in prison for 34 offences. He is challenging his convictions on two counts of rape as well as a conviction related to abuse during a relationship with a former girlfriend.
Høiby had been charged with four counts of rape but was convicted in only two cases.
An appeal trial may not take place until next year, according to Norwegian media reports
Høiby has been held in detention since early February. He had been seeking release, citing the severe lung disease of his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit. His latest request came immediately after last week's verdict, but the court rejected it.
His lawyer told the Aftenpost newspaper on Wednesday that Høiby will not appeal that decision and has accepted that he will remain in detention pending further legal processes.
