Sony has temporarily suspended shipments of its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII, in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The issue was first reported in Japan, where Sony Japan updated its support page with a notice confirming the suspension due to malfunction-related complaints.
According to the machine-translated statement on Sony Japan’s support site, the affected units may experience problems such as the phone shutting down unexpectedly, rebooting, or failing to power on during use. As a result, Sony has paused both shipments and in-store sales in the affected regions.
For current users experiencing these issues, Sony advises performing a force restart by holding the power and volume up buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds. Additionally, users are encouraged to update their device to the latest software version.
The Xperia 1 VII is scheduled for release in Malaysia this July. At the time of writing, Sony has not confirmed whether the Malaysian launch will be affected by this suspension.
