Kuala Lumpur: The communications and digital ministry will review the SOP for its SMS broadcast, after it drew flak for blasting messages praising the unity government.

Its deputy minister, Teo Nie Ching, said she was aware of the complaints regarding the matter.

“We will review and try to improve the SOP,” she told reporters briefly on the sidelines of an event in Brickfields here today.

Through its “GOV” SMS broadcast, the ministry had sent messages yesterday describing the Anwar Ibrahim-led government as a “solution based on the law and Federal Constitution”.

Another SMS today said the unity government was represented by “MPs of various races, religions and regions with various expertise and experiences”.

Pakatan Harapan MPs had criticised the previous government for sending similar text messages to the public, alleging that the official SMS channel was being used to spread propaganda.

The “GOV” broadcast channel was meant for public service announcements on initiatives by ministries and government agencies.

The government had used the channel during the pandemic to inform people on the bank loan moratorium, and warn of scams.
