Sorry seems to cost RM100

Kuala Lumpur: An apology note and RM100 left on a damaged car by an 18-year-old driver sparked mixed reactions online after photos of the incident were shared on Threads.

A Threads user posted images on May 7 showing a white sedan with a long horizontal scratch and dents along the right side, together with rolled-up cash wedged behind the driver’s door handle.

The post was captioned: “Hmm they hit someone's car and only gave RM100. It makes my blood boil just looking at it.”The handwritten note read: “I’m so sorry. I’m an 18-year-old girl with little experience in driving,” adding that she did not have much money with her at the time.

While many netizens sympathised with the car owner, several also commended the young driver for attempting to take responsibility, with one commenter saying she showed “basic human courtesy” by leaving money and a contact number.

Others pointed out that cashless payments are now common, with one netizen writing: “I’ll be lucky if I even have RM50 with me since we QR pay everything.”Some commenters questioned the driver’s level of experience and whether she held a valid licence, while others shared similar incidents and warned that repair costs for the damage could exceed RM800.
