Liverpool legend Graeme Souness was unimpressed by Manchester United's style of play for Sunday's win against Arsenal.

United made it four wins from their last four on Sunday when they beat league leaders Arsenal 3-1 in front of a raucous Old Trafford.

Souness told talkSPORT: "I think losing the first two games, losing in the way they did at Brentford, I think it was a wake up call for the new manager.

"He'd have looked at his players and thought 'we're good enough to take people on in a proper end-to-end game of football because we've got better players', and I think after two games he may have had a rethink. I think there's been a bit of a restart.

"The way they're digging out results, which is admirable, they're dogged, they're determined, they're showing real spirit, togetherness.

"I think they're playing in a pragmatic way now, they're not playing in the Manchester United way. As long as I've been in football, United play in a certain way [which is] is on the front foot, it's exciting. They're committed to playing that way because it's United, one of, if not the biggest, club's in the world.

"They've been impressive because they've shown a togetherness to win games and when the going got tough at the start of that second half, they dug in. They conceded one, they were rocking but they got through that and scored a couple of goals on the break.

"'Going forward...is that how United supporters want their team to play? No. But there's been a bit of a reset to think we have to be different, a bit more cautious, a little bit more pragmatic in the way we want to play. And it's working for them today."
