Southampton are in talks to recruit Manchester City academy chief Joe Shields.
Shields is wanted at Saints to succeed Martyn Glover as head of recruitment. Glover is leaving for Leicester City
The Telegraph says Shields is the first major recruitment figure Saints have approached since the takeover by new owners Sport Republic, as they look to fill the void that will be left by Glover's departure.
The 35-year-old is said to be the leading candidate for the new head of senior recruitment at St Mary's, in an overhaul led by Sport Republic CEO Rasmus Ankersen.
Shields, who was originally assistant head of recruitment at Crystal Palace, is credited with recruiting the likes of Jadon Sancho, new Saints signing Gavin Bazunu, Liam Delap and many more.
