In order to realise the goal of airasia Super App is to make co-innovation ecosystem that all businesses and developers may participate in to fulfil the daily needs of people in Southeast Asia, airasia Super App and Google Cloud have announced a five-year strategic relationship. Micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) on the platform will benefit from the combined expertise of the two groups as they work to foster technological talent, co-create software tools for open innovation, deliver data-driven intelligence on their behalf, and broaden the scope of the platform's reach to users in urban and rural areas alike.
AirAsia Super App is a key component of Capital A's digital strategy, serving as a travel platform in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. An integrated loyalty programme and mobile wallet serve as the backbone of the platform, which also facilitates travel and hotel reservations, online shopping, food and package delivery, ride-hailing, financial and health services, on-demand education, and more. The platform has already become the go-to lifestyle app for 51 million users, and this is before the debut of any services in any of the individual markets that make up Asean. Credit Suisse reports that since its founding in 2020, airasia Super App has grown to become one of three "unicorns" with Malaysian headquarters.
"When I decided five years ago to take our digital journey to the next level, I set out to find a collaborator who could help us reach the same pinnacle that Airbus and General Electric had brought us to as they aided our expansion from a two-plane business to the fourth largest airline in Asia. I crisscrossed the United States in search of this potential business associate, eventually connecting with Google Cloud's Diane Greene. Our journey to revolutionise the digital platform industry, just like we did with the aviation industry, has begun with Thomas and his team. Although we're a bit late to the game, with the Super App at the hub of our e-commerce, logistics, and financial ecosystem, we're committed to providing the 700 million people in Asean with equity, convenience, and fair pricing "The CEO of Capital A, Tony Fernandes, put it this way.
"Customers and partners like restaurants, flights, hotels, and drivers will all benefit from Google's contributions to our ecosystem, which will be about more than just transactions. I can't wait to show you how airasia and the rest of Capital A's holdings will revolutionise Asean and make the region more accessible and prosperous. Our approach is revolutionary, rather than evolutionary. With Google at the wheel, I want to relax and have fun "Fernandes remarked.

There will be four main foci for the strategic partnerships and ecosystem development:
A Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE) comprised of AirAsia Allstars and Google Cloud technologists will be established by airasia Super App and Google Cloud in order to promote an agile culture and co-innovation talent engine. The CCoE's mission is to instil an agile culture throughout all airasia Super App business units in order to boost the rate of product development, make teams more open to change, and improve the quality of their employees' skills. To ensure that both current employees and recent graduates of the AirAsia Academy have the technological chops to keep up with the needs of the rapidly expanding company, Google Cloud's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and MLOps best practices are being leveraged. The CCoE will act as an extension of the Google Cloud product development team and will also lead co-innovation activities to help shape technology developments in the region and beyond.
Facilitating users' access via any device, at any time: The CCoE will improve the airasia Super App by utilising Google Cloud's safe and scalable infrastructure as well as cutting-edge microservices, serverless, and networking technologies to keep it stable, secure, and lightweight while new features and services are introduced on a regular basis. This makes the platform suitable for use by a large number of people simultaneously, even those in remote places with spotty internet or those using older, less powerful smartphones.
Information decoding for small and medium-sized enterprise development: Data scientists at the CCoE may integrate and analyse datasets in real time to learn about customer sentiment and new trends by using Google Cloud's cutting-edge analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence tools. Consumption patterns for food delivery services, ridesharing apps, and other similar services, as well as the travel industry's expected rate of recovery, are examples. With these discoveries in hand, the platform will be in a position to provide hyper-targeted suggestions on behalf of MSMEs, thereby increasing the latter's revenue.
Facilitating collaborative innovation through developer and partner empowerment: The CCoE will employ Google Cloud's open-source concepts and infrastructure to generate a set of software development kits (SDKs) that ecosystem partners and external developers may use to quickly and affordably build new features and services for users of the airasia Super App. Biometric identity systems, chatbots, electronic wallets, online travel booking systems, and more will all make use of reusable software components. Additionally, Google will leverage airasia Super App's regional reach to grow its SE Asian developer base.
According to Amanda Woo, CEO of airasia super app, "the airasia super app must be simple and easy-to-use yet anchored by inclusive design, interoperability, and personalisation" in order to benefit all of Southeast Asia's diverse communities. "Therefore, it is critical that we draw on Google's extensive background in establishing worldwide platforms and ecosystems in order to better prepare and involve more talent, entrepreneurs, and partners in developing ever-more-tailor-made solutions for customers. What we're announcing today is just the beginning; we're excited to work with Google on other co-innovation projects in the future, such as those involving digital travel planning, autonomous vehicles, cloud gaming, start-up investment, and the Google Workspace platform for supporting frontline employees."
"In addition to boosting economic activity, super-apps are aiding the success of individual entrepreneurs. According to the World Economic Forum, digital platform business models would be responsible for producing 70% of the world's additional economic value in the next decade "Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said. "The airasia Super App is a motivational case study of a company that is innovating by utilising cloud-first technology to expand its customer base and improve its level of service. We're excited to continue our collaboration with Tony and his group as they build a talent pool and an open innovation ecosystem to serve the region's varied digital lifestyle requirements."
