Southern France tornado leaves dozens injured and hundreds of homes damaged

  • A huge tornado struck the Aude region in southern France late on Monday, causing widespread damage.
  • Local authorities confirmed 41 people were injured, 15 of whom were taken to hospital, while more than 300 homes were damaged.
  • Gusts of up to 117 km/h were recorded, according to the local administration, with the strongest winds hitting the commune of Pomas.
  • 2,800 households in Aude were still without electricity by 7.30pm on Monday.
