The 2-1 victory, secured by Espanyol veteran Joselu, sets up Spain to meet Croatia in the final.
Villarreal attacker Yeremy Pino had Spain ahead before Italy leveled via Ciro Immobile.
De La Fuente said: "There is satisfaction, we played a top-level match, the result of a project that we have and a job we do.
"We followed our game plan to the letter, I'm happy and it's great to be in a final with a rival like Croatia."
