
Spain's foreign trade deficit increased in April from a year ago, as imports grew faster than exports, preliminary data from the Economy Ministry showed on Tuesday.
The trade deficit widened to €5.2 billion ($5.92 billion) in April from €3.9 billion in the corresponding month last year. In March, there was a shortfall of €4.4 billion.
Exports climbed 5.8% annually in April, and imports were 8.7% higher. The country exported 26.3% more energy products, while imports of the same increased by 32.2% from a year earlier.
During the January to April period, the total trade deficit was €16.9 billion, down from €19 billion in the corresponding period last year.
