THE Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Johari Abdul has confirmed that he has not yet received any official letter notifying the resignation of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin as Opposition Leader.
Johari, when contacted by Bernama on Wednesday, gave a brief response, saying: “Not yet (pertaining to receiving the letter).”
The development comes amid ongoing uncertainty over the leadership position within the opposition bloc, following earlier statements indicating that Hamzah was no longer serving as Opposition Leader.
On Sunday, Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who chairs the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN), confirmed that Hamzah was no longer holding the post.
He also said that the coalition had instructed its Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, to send an official letter to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker to formally notify the vacancy.
The absence of formal notification to Parliament, however, means that the status of the Opposition Leader position remains unresolved at the institutional level. - April 15, 2026
