Kota Kinabalu: The State-level Malaysia Day celebration scheduled to be held at Padang Merdeka on Sept 16 is set to be a spectacular event featuring diverse entertainment and a grand fireworks display as the highlight.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew said this year’s celebration will be special, with various attractive programmes planned to draw some 20,000 attendees, including locals and tourists.
“Every year, the Malaysia Day celebration is special because it commemorates the formation of Malaysia. Whether in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak or Sabah, we all celebrate together,” Christina said after a courtesy visit to Head of State Tun Musa Aman at the Istana Seri Kinabalu, Tuesday.
She said the visit was to invite Musa to officiate the Malaysia Day celebration. As chairperson of the celebration’s main committee, she urged the public to join in making the event a success.
“To experience first-hand the exciting activities prepared, the public is invited to come to Padang Merdeka on Sept 16. I hope Sabah will continue to remain harmonious and peaceful with our multiracial society,” she said.
The event promises a colourful programme featuring various activities and performances, culminating in the fireworks spectacular.
Present was State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Josie Lai.
