
A speeding truck mowed down two Haryana men near Junpur village here early in the morning. The incident took place when the two were repairing a punctured tyre of their car on the GT Road. The truck was coming from the Ambala side.
A truck driver was seriously injured in the accident.
Those dead were identified as Kartik Bhardwaj of Barot village and Rajat of Dand village in Haryana’s Kaithal.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Rupinder Singh, posted at the Mullepur police station, said the victims were on their way to Jalandhar, where they were called for their bio-metric verification as part of their visa process.
Both in their early 20s, reached the stretch near a McDonald’s outlet at Junpur village around 2 am when their car tyre got punctured. Lacking the necessary tools to replace it, they sought help from a truck driver, identified as Harsh Sharma from Uttarakhand. The truck driver was passing through the area. He too did not have the required tools to remove the tyre and was standing with them when the incident took place.
A speeding truck coming from the Ambala side ploughed into them.
Kartik and Rajat were crushed to death on the spot while Harsh Sharma was seriously injuries. He was rushed to Patiala’s Rajindra Hospital, where his condition is stated to be serious.
Another friend, Sanjeev, who was standing some distance away, narrowly escaped the accident. — OC
