Spider-Man: Brand New Day has finally hit cinemas after a five-year hiatus – and those willing to wait until the end of the film for a typical Marvel post-credits scene won’t be disappointed.
Like many other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the new Tom Holland flick features an extra scene once the credits have rolled but in a rare move, it doesn’t feature anyone at all.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day sees Peter Parker (Holland) attempt to protect New York City from a new threat without his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) or best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) by his side – with the world having forgotten he existed following Dr Strange’s spell at the end of the last film.

The movie ends with Parker defeating – and ultimately befriending – new villain Jean Grey (played by Sadie Sink), and although MJ has no memory of Parker, Ned suddenly remembers who he is despite the spell.
While the movie concludes on that cliffhanger, the post-credits scene shows the screen for Ned’s device for tracking Spider-Man as it receives a new notification as to the superhero’s whereabouts. After scanning for the masked vigilante, it drops a pin on his location in outer space – teasing that we’ll next see Parker head away from Earth.
It is one of the few Marvel post-credit scenes to feature no characters at all – with just Ned’s tracking device being shown.
Previously, we’ve seen at least animals or robots appear in the scenes, such as the Giant Ant playing Scott Lang’s drum kit at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp or Nick Fury’s adopted cat Goose jumping on his desk in Captain Marvel. While, in the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, cinemagoers watched the group’s robot assistant H.E.R.B.I.E. turn on a TV to watch The Fantastic Four Power Hour cartoon.
The latest Marvel film has been well-reviewed by critics, with The Independent’s Clarisse Loughrey calling it “the best Spider-Man movie in more than 20 years” in her four-star write-up.
In particular, she praised Sink’s introduction to the franchise, saying: “Brand New Day’s inevitable crossovers, including the return of Bruce Banner’s Hulk, are refreshingly well done and always with a narrative or emotional purpose in mind.”
Holland recently revealed that a different cut of the film was made based on test audience’s feedback, but was ultimately scrapped as he “hated” it.
“It totally didn’t work – and it’s what the people were asking for,” the actor said. “But it wasn’t quite what we wanted as the creatives.”
He reunites with wife and Odyssey co-star Zendaya in the film, as well as Batalon, Jon Bernthal as Punisher, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk.
