Hong Leong Bank (HLB) is releasing a set of limited edition cards and umbrellas tied to the film ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, with the credit card version open for application from 18 August 2026 and two debit card designs following on 2 September 2026. Both are available in limited numbers, online and at HLB branches nationwide.
The campaign runs until 31 December 2026. None of the designs come free. Swapping an existing Sutera Platinum card costs RM50, while the debit cards carry a RM12 or RM18 fee on top of a RM500 deposit requirement.
Only 10,000 Credit Cards And 25,000 Debit Cards Are Available
The credit card is capped at 10,000 approved cards, given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must be between 21 and 65 years old, and approved by 31 December 2026.
The two debit card designs have separate limits. HLB is issuing 15,000 of the red design and 10,000 of the black design. Debit cards are only available at HLB branches, including through the bank’s community deposits specialists.
The Sutera Platinum Earns Up To 8x Reward Points
The credit card is the Hong Leong Sutera Platinum Credit Card, so the features, rates, and fees are the ones already attached to that card. It earns up to 8x HLB Reward Points on online spending, groceries, pharmacies and essentials, dining, and overseas spending, with all other spending earning 1x. Points can go towards vouchers, gifts, or air miles.
Existing Sutera Platinum cardholders do not have to apply again. HLB charges a card replacement fee of RM50 to swap an existing card for the limited edition design. Annual fees and the interest rate on unpaid balances are unchanged from the standard version, so compare those figures against other Hong Leong Bank credit cards before you apply.
A Free Spider-Man Umbrella Comes With An RM8,000 Fixed Deposit
New credit card applicants who place a fixed deposit with HLB can also get a limited edition Spider-Man umbrella. There are only 2,000 umbrellas available, and HLB says they will be delivered by 31 January 2027 at the latest.
To qualify, you’ll need to place between RM8,000 and RM50,000 in a fixed deposit for 3, 6, or 12 months, with auto renewal. The money must also be new funds brought in from outside HLB.
The fixed deposit acts as security for the credit card. This means freelancers and self-employed applicants who may not have payslips or other income documents can apply using the fixed deposit instead.
In return, the funds are locked for as long as the card is active, so you won’t be able to withdraw or use them during this time. If you end the fixed deposit early, you may also lose some or all of the interest earned.
Islamic, junior, and joint-name fixed deposits cannot be pledged. Eligible fixed deposits are protected by PIDM up to RM250,000 per depositor.
The Debit Cards Cost RM12 Or RM18 Plus A RM500 Deposit
Every debit card applicant has to move at least RM500 in new funds from another bank into an HLB current or savings account. Transfers between your own HLB accounts do not count. Basic savings, basic current, and junior savings accounts are not eligible, and for joint accounts only the primary holder can apply.
The card fee depends on what you already hold with HLB.
The card fee is not refundable, though the RM500 stays in your own account and can be spent or withdrawn afterwards.
With Great Card Designs Come Great Responsibilities
The Spider-Man card designs don’t change the cards’ usual fees, rewards, or account terms. Check these before applying to make sure the card works for you, and if it does, the Spider-Man design is a nice bonus.
