According to Sony Pictures Malaysia, the result gave the distributor its biggest opening weekend in the country.

The film places Peter Parker back on the streets of New York, where he now fights crime full-time. The trouble is that nobody remembers who he is, including the friends who once formed the centre of his life.

Peter’s isolation soon takes a more dangerous turn when he begins experiencing a change he cannot control. The transformation may also be his best chance of defeating a powerful new enemy who cannot be seen.

Destin Daniel Cretton directs from a screenplay by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers and Justin Kuritzkes. The film is based on the Marvel superhero created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

Tom Holland returns as Peter alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.

The film is now showing in cinemas.
