Spinal cord treatment now in Keningau, Sandakan

KENINGAU: Patients suffering from spinal cord injuries in the interior areas and Sandakan can now receive treatment in their respective districts.

Deputy Director of Medicine at Keningau Hospital, Dr Ukim Antikoh, said they will no longer have to go for treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Kota Kinabalu, thus saving them travel costs.

“Patients with spinal cord injuries in the interior and Sandakan areas no longer need to go to QEH in Kota Kinabalu for treatment,” he said when officiating the Spinal Cord Injury’ (SCI) Rehabilitation Workshop 2025.

Read more The workshop was organised by Keningau Hospital’s Rehabilitation Medicine Department in collaboration with the respective department from Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Duchess of Kent Hospital.

The SCI workshop was attended by doctors and medical officers specializing in SCI from the State, as well as from Peninsular, Brunei Darussalam, and Indonesia, and was conducted by expert trainers from the medical faculty of University Malaya.

“We are proud for Sabah because rehabilitation medicine has grown significantly, not only at QE Hospital but also in Sandakan and Keningau,” she said.
