Kota Kinabalu: School leavers who have completed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination are encouraged to seek advice or guidance from their teachers before applying to public (IPTA) or private (IPTS) institutions of higher learning.

State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Datuk Dr. Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, said that teachers’ input is crucial to ensure students choose academic pathways aligned with current job market demands, including in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

“I hope students planning to further their studies at public or private institutions will consult their teachers for advice.

He also urged students accepted into higher education institutions to apply for financial aid through the various schemes offered by the State Government.

“I call on them to apply for the Budi Assistance for the B40 group, which provides RM1,500 for diploma-level and RM2,000 for degree-level students.

“In addition, students may also apply for scholarships from Yayasan Sabah, the State Government’s scholarship programme, and from other available education funds,” Dr Mohd Arifin said.

He said the State Government remains committed to allocating more funding to support Sabah’s youths through various scholarship initiatives, bursaries, and other forms of educational aid.

“With all this assistance available, there is no reason for children from the B40 and e-Kasih groups not pursuing higher education,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Mohd Arifin said a portal had been established in collaboration with the State Government, Yayasan Sabah, State Education Fund, Sabah Islamic

Religious Council (MUIS), and KSTI Special Tasks unit to coordinate the distribution of educational aid for Sabah’s youths.

Also present were Sabah Assistant Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Harun Durabi and KSTI Sabah Permanent Secretary Datuk Md Hanafiah Md Kassim.
