We have a developing situation in North America (the United States and Canada) (as written on 12 February 2023).

New Shooting and Sightings

The situation involving unidentified flying objects in North American skies has escalated. The Pentagon's spokesperson has confirmed that they had shot down another unidentified object over the Alaskan airspace. In less than 24 hours, the US Air Force had tracked down and shot down the unidentified object over Yukon airspace in Canada under the order of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Object the Size of a Car Downed in Alaska

On 10th February, Washington announced they had shot down another flying object over Alaskan airspace. The US government did not provide further details except that the unknown object was endangering civilian air traffic by flying within the restricted airspace corridor. They have difficulties retrieving the object due to adverse weather conditions.

However, a US meteorologist claimed that the unidentified object in Alaska may have been a US National Weather Service balloon. He claimed that the US National Weather Service had lost track of a balloon flying within the proximity of the area.

Joint US-Canada Interception Mission

On 11th February, US Northern Air Defence Command, commonly known as NORAD detected an unidentified object flying into Canadian airspace. A joint unit with F22 Raptors from the US Air Force and unidentified airplanes from Royal Canadian Air Force took off to identify and intercept the object. Once the object had visually sighted, the Canadian Prime Minister ordered to have the object taken down.

US and Canadian government officials are handling these new developing situation differently, as they did not identify any specific origins to the devices. This suggest a possibility that the devices may not be from China.

Another Sighting over Montana

NORAD had also instructed civilian air traffic over Montana to be closed as they had tracked another flying object. They retracted the instruction hours later, implying either that they had managed to eliminate the device, or that the warning was premature.

Other News

Two other events hit the news at the same time.

The US Military Successfully Test-Fired Nuclear-Capable ICBM

The US military successfully test-fired an unarmed Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) on the 10th of February. The missile can carry Multiple Reentry Vehicles (MRV) that can carry multiple nuclear warheads, each capable of targeting different locations.

The US military claimed that the exercise was a standard exercise to test their nuclear deterrence capability. They claimed that there was no scrutiny over the past 300 similar tests.

Laser Light from Chinese Satellite Over Hawaii

A news outlet claimed that a Chinese satellite had shone laser light over Hawaii. Citing the works by a group of Japanese and local astronomers, they believe that the laser came from a Chinese satellite with no known military purpose.

The report on the green laser as reported by local Hawaiian news channel KHON News via their YouTube channel.

Chinese Balloon over Colombian Airspace

No latest news on the status of the Chinese balloon over Colombian airspace. The Chinese Foreign Ministry had since apologised for the intrusion by their balloon, claiming that they have no control over the direction of the balloon.
