KUALA LUMPUR – Two Malaysians remain in intensive care, while five Malaysians continue to get inpatient treatment at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital in Bangkok, after they were injured when Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 hit extreme turbulence on Tuesday.

In a statement today, the hospital said it was treating a total of 34 people – 15 men and 19 women – who were onboard the flight.

Apart from the two Malaysians, three Australians, one Briton and one New Zealander are in the ICU.

Another eight UK citizens, six Australians, five from the Philippines, two Americans and one each from New Zealand, Myanmar, Iceland and Spain are receiving inpatient care.

The hospital discharged two patients, and took in another two from Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital as the patients wanted to be closer to their relatives.

Another seven injured are receiving treatment at Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital, and two are in Bangkok Hospital.

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Malaysian cabin crew member underwent spinal surgery on Thursday, as he sustained head and back injuries.

Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 from London Heathrow Airport to Singapore experienced turbulence on Tuesday, resulting in one death and about 30 injured.

One passenger said people were thrown around the cabin so violently they put dents in the ceiling during the drama at 11,300m (37,000ft).

A relief flight took 131 passengers and 12 crew members to Singapore’s Changi Airport on Wednesday to continue their journeys or return home. – May 25, 2024
