KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 - The chief executive officer (CEO) of a statutory body suspected of involvement in a RM1 million bribe for the contract of a squash court has been remanded for five days until Saturday (April 18).
According to a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) source, Magistrate Ezrene Zakaria issued the remand order at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court after the commission submitted an application this morning.
The CEO, in his 40s, was arrested at 7.20pm yesterday at a shopping mall in Bukit Jalil, moments after he received RM100,000 from a construction contractor, believed to be payment for helping to approve the contractor’s claim to build a squash court costing RM7 million.
The suspect is also believed to have received an upfront payment of RM500,000 prior to Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
