COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s main international airport, Bandaranaike International Airport, has earned 26 billion rupees (about US$80 million) in profits so far in 2023, state media reported on Friday quoting Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation, Nimal Siripala de Silva.
The minister said that in 2022, the Bandaranaike International Airport made a loss of 4 billion rupees (about US$12.3 million).
He said the government has taken steps to improve facilities in the airport, including the installation of modern communications equipment and radar.
Sri Lanka is expected to attract 5 million tourists by 2030, and enhancing the capacity of the Bandaranaike International Airport is key to facilitating tourism growth, government officials have said. –Bernama-Xinhua
